Thisintroductory course provides a brisk high-level overview of the project management discipline and the basic knowledge, insights, skills, and techniquesthat are required to steer projects toward their desired outcomes, while also ensuring that they create value for the organizations that sponsor and executethem.
The course begins with the history of project management and its relevance and importance to present-day organizations and firms. We will then address theissues that enter into project selection and initiation, and proceed to discuss the skills and techniques required to plan, execute and monitor projectseffectively and efficiently. Project closure considerations will also be covered.
Ourdiscussions will occur within the broader PMIÒ frameworkof knowledge areas and process groups (which will also be introduced andexplained in detail). All ten knowledge areas will be covered: integration,scope, time, cost, quality, communications, resource,risk, procurement, and stakeholder.
Practicaltips for scaling the project management effort to fit the size, complexity andoverall profile of a project will also be shared with the class. The mostwidely used techniques (such as determining a critical path) will beillustrated using specific project examples and hands-on group assignments.
